No, this isn’t the beginning of a fundraising email. We are collecting coats, toys, and necessities for migrants in Adams County!

While some of our neighboring counties have gotten a lot of attention during this period of migration from Central and South America, we in Adams County are also seeing an influx of migrants arriving here everyday. They often arrive with just the clothes on their backs and unprepared for our vastly different climate.

Here’s where you can help! Sheriff Gene Claps and his wife, Pam, are helping local charities collect and distribute winter necessities on an ongoing basis. Currently, the following items are most in need in the Adams County migrant community, but any help is greatly appreciated!

  • Coats, hats, scarves, and gloves for people of all ages and genders
  • Holiday toys for kids and presents for teens
  • Sleeping bags and warm blankets
  • Toiletries for all genders
  • Backpacks (especially draw-string backpacks), rolling suit cases, and large totes
  • Boots, warm closed-toed shoes and sneakers, and socks for all genders and ages
